Chocolate Gravy & Biscuits
Prep Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 6
These homemade biscuits are light, flaky, and irresistibly buttery—perfect for pairing with rich, silky chocolate gravy!
For the Biscuits
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, very cold (85g) European-style butter works best but isn't required
- ¾ cup whole milk (177ml) Buttermilk or 2% milk will also work
For the Chocolate Gravy
- 1 package of Kyya's Chocolate Gravy Mix
- 3/4 cup of whole milk
- 1 Tablespoon of Butter
- 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla
Instructions
1. Prepare Your Ingredients
- For the best results, place your butter in the freezer for 10-20 minutes before starting. The colder the butter, the flakier the biscuits!
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until evenly combined. Set aside.
3. Add the Butter
- Remove the butter from the freezer and either:
- Grate it using a box grater (recommended for even distribution), OR
- Cut it into small pieces and use a pastry cutter to blend it into the flour.
- Mix until the butter pieces are evenly distributed and the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
4. Add Milk & Form the Dough
- Pour in ¾ cup milk and use a wooden spoon or spatula to gently mix until the dough starts to come together. Be careful not to overmix!
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently work it together with your hands. If it's too sticky, add a little more flour until it's manageable.
5. Create Flaky Layers
- Fold the dough in half, press it down gently, then rotate it 90 degrees and fold again.
- Repeat this 5-6 times to create layers, but be careful not to overwork the dough!
6. Cut & Shape the Biscuits
- Gently pat the dough into a 1-inch thick layer (no rolling pin needed!).
- Lightly flour a 2 ¾-inch biscuit cutter, then press straight down into the dough to cut out biscuits. Avoid twisting the cutter—this helps them rise evenly!
- Place biscuits on the prepared baking sheet less than ½ inch apart for soft sides or further apart for crispier edges.
- Gather and rework the remaining dough to cut out more biscuits. You should get at least 6 biscuits.
7. Bake & Prepare the Chocolate Gravy
- Bake at 425°F for 12 minutes, or until the tops turn lightly golden brown.
- While the biscuits are baking, prepare your chocolate gravy according to the instructions on the back of the package.
8. Finish & Serve
- For an extra buttery finish, brush biscuits with melted salted butter as soon as they come out of the oven.
- Serve warm, smothered in rich chocolate gravy. Enjoy!
